The Art of Listening

This is a quote I’m pondering today.

‘When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.’ — The Dalai Lama.

Isn’t that wonderful?

It’s difficult sometimes to do this. Sometimes we wait to speak rather than listen to genuinely understand.

I’ve been guilty of this on many occasions.

I don’t know if this has ever happened to you, but I have in the past told my own story to someone sharing theirs in a misguided attempt to empathize with how they were feeling.

What I should have done was just listen.

I could have grown even incrementally as a person.

Every person can teach you something just from living their life until finally meeting you.

In the future, I hope I can close my mouth a little more and instead open my ears and mind.
